A Dress Form Database for Diverse Bodies

This database allows designers to develop their ideas on a spectrum of body variations. At the same time, these first 100 avatars are not all the possibilities the human form can take; it offers a chance to use the people you see around you every day in your design process.

This library challenges the conventional fashion body by making everybody a fashion avatar. Each is unique in its height, curves, and physicality; seated individuals, young, old, male, female and nonbinary avatars are part of the first offerings.
The database will continue to grow and will include body scans in the near future. Feel free to submit yours as an object file to info@fashionavatars.com.

A huge thank you to the fantastic community at the Fashion Institute of Technology which supported this project. Many of the avatars are volunteers who graciously let me attempt to render the physical to the digital. Each avatar was developed as an object file and can be imported into a variety of 3D modeling software.

This project was made possible by the New York State Council on The Arts

The New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) is dedicated to preserving and expanding the rich and diverse cultural resources that are and will become the heritage of New York's citizens.
